I Had No Tools, No Help, and No Clue Where to Start
— So I Created the Course I Always Wished I Had

I was about 9, it was Christmas time. I was walking past this strange little shop in my town — not a toy store, but one of those rare places that sold educational equipment. In the window, I saw something that completely stopped me in my tracks.

It was a LEGO conveyor belt, controlled by a computer. There was a little sensor that saw a brick go by, stopped the belt, turned on another one, and redirected it. That was it. But to me, it was like seeing the future.

Back then, we didn’t have robotics kits at home. We didn’t even have a computer. My dad had one at work, and that was already a big deal. I had LEGO Technic at home, sure, but no way to make it come alive. You could maybe add a wired motor if you were lucky. That was as far as it went.

That moment at the shop window didn’t just spark my curiosity. It left a mark.

Before that, I liked LEGO like any other kid. I built cars, houses, and spaceships. But seeing that conveyor belt react to its environment changed something in me. It wasn’t a toy anymore. It was a machine that made decisions. And I knew I wanted to understand how.

I couldn’t afford that setup, and no one was there to teach me anyway. Robotics was just a dream. I didn’t have access to tools or tutorials. No courses, no mentors. Just a strong desire to figure it out. That was enough to shape the direction of everything I did after.

I had to wait 5 years for LEGO to release the first Mindstorms kit. And then another 5 to convince myself I could actually buy one with my savings.

I had to teach myself everything, piece by piece.

Back then, the internet was still in its early days, and online LEGO communities were just starting to emerge. Resources were scarce, scattered, and often incomplete.

For years, I searched, experimented, and slowly made progress. I ended up studying engineering, not because someone pushed me, but because I needed to understand how to bring those ideas to life. I wanted to build systems that worked and had purpose.

That early obsession gave me more than knowledge. It gave me a way to think. It taught me how to keep going even when things were unclear. How to test, fail, adjust, and enjoy the process.

Robotics gave me that mindset. It shaped how I teach, how I learn, how I face problems. It wasn’t just about motors or sensors. It was about becoming someone who doesn’t quit when something gets difficult.

Now, after 17 years of writing books and teaching robotics both in schools and internationally, I’ve distilled everything I’ve learned into this course — from the technical skills to a proven way of teaching that makes learning clear, fun, and effective. The tools, the mindset, the process.

What took me decades to figure out, your child can start learning today.

You don’t need expensive equipment. You don’t need prior experience. You just need curiosity — and a guide who knows what it’s like to start with nothing but a spark.

This course is the one I wish I had as a 9-year-old.

A course built for your child — and maybe even a bit for the child you used to be too.

Still a kid at heart. I am impressed with your cube solver! Keep up the great work and keep inspiring us all!

A Playful Method That Builds Real Skills

There’s a simple method behind how kids become creative thinkers and confident problem-solvers. It’s not magic—and it’s not about following instructions blindly.

It’s a loop they’ll learn to love:
Imagine – Build – Play – Share – Reflect – Continue…

That’s the engine driving the course. And here’s what makes it work.

Instead of handing out isolated exercises or generic projects, each lesson is a mission—part of a story set in a small imaginary world. These microworlds give kids purpose. They’re not just building to learn—they’re building to achieve something. To solve the mission, complete the challenge, unlock the next chapter.

That’s where motivation comes from—not because someone told them to, but because they care about what they’re doing.
And when they get stuck—and they will, because it’s part of the journey—they’ll learn how to work through it without feeling like they failed.

That mindset shift is everything.

And if they’re not quite ready to figure it out on their own, there’s always a fallback solution to guide them—just enough support to move forward, without taking away the joy of discovery.

That shift—from seeing mistakes as something to avoid, to seeing them as part of learning—is something traditional education too often overlooks. In fact, professional programmers spend most of their time fixing bugs, not writing perfect code. Why expect kids to get it right on the first try?
This is why I teach them to sketch ideas using pseudocode before jumping into blocks or Python. It gives them a roadmap, and a habit of thinking before coding. At first, they might find it boring. Then they realize it’s a superpower.

So why LEGO kits?

Because the LEGO system is clean, safe, flexible—and brilliantly designed. No glue. No tools. Just endless possibilities within a modular system. There’s a logic to how LEGO parts fit together—a hidden grid that kids can learn and master. And that’s the perfect balance: freedom inside structure. It teaches them how to be creative within constraints—which is exactly how real-world problem solving works.

And they don’t need to start from scratch. I encourage them to copy great designs. Use official LEGO builds, remix my own models, combine modular parts to invent something new. That’s how real creators work—by standing on the shoulders of giants.

As a parent, I know how tight time can be. Kids are overscheduled, parents are stretched thin. That’s why the course is designed around short, focused lessons. Just enough guidance to get them moving. From there, it’s hands-on. A weekly 30-minute session can become a habit—one that builds resilience, curiosity, and confidence.

If you’re a coach or teacher preparing for competitions like FIRST LEGO League or WRO, you’ll find a dedicated section in the course just for you. I’ve worked with teams who went from zero to world-class—like the group I mentored in school breaks who qualified for the WRO Global Final in Panama on their first attempt. The tools, strategies, and reusable code I share will save you hours and help your students perform with confidence.

The method I teach—Imagine, Build, Play, Share, Reflect—isn’t something I came up with yesterday. It’s grounded in research from the MIT Media Lab and refined over years of hands-on teaching, competition coaching, and writing books about LEGO robotics. Those books are still used today by parents, teachers, and curious learners—and many have shared how they transformed the way they approach STEM with their kids.

Here’s what they said about my books

Introducing Prof. Bricks Academy

This isn’t just another subscription to a series of robot-building tutorials. It’s a complete learning system designed by someone who had to learn it all the hard way — and turned that struggle into a teaching method that works.

While most resources focus on quick builds or scattered hacks, this course gives your child a clear path. One where every lesson builds confidence, every robot teaches a principle, and every project feels like play.

What makes it different? Instead of jumping straight into blocks and motors, we start by shaping how kids think — breaking problems into steps, planning solutions, and learning how to learn.

No aimless tutorials. No confusing YouTube rabbit holes. No frustration.
Just real progress, made possible by a method that’s been tested with students, schools, and teachers around the world.

Here’s How Your Child Will Succeed

Prof. Bricks Academy follows a step-by-step path inspired by years of classroom experience and grounded in proven, research-backed principles of how kids learn best. I’ve refined these ideas into a hands-on method that helps young learners build, think, explore, and reflect as they go: The BRICKCODE Method.

There will be downloadable PDF cheat sheets and workbooks, but no full instructions, to protect the content against piracy and other companies copying my work. You can access everything securely inside a walled, structured learning space designed just for members.

💻 What do I need to access the material?

Any smart device or computer browser. Chrome is needed for the Web Apps that communicate via Bluetooth Low Energy with the LEGO hubs. Bluefy (or equivalent browser) might be needed on iOS.

🌐 Will the course be available in other languages?

Right now, everything is in English. Eventually, yes, there will be translations. We hope to expand to more languages depending on demand.

👨‍💻 Which programming languages do you use?

We use Scratch with the LEGO SPIKE App for most projects and Pybricks for advanced programming.

🧩 What is block coding?

Block coding is a visual way to learn programming. Kids connect colored blocks that represent commands—like move, turn, play sound, or sense colors. It’s perfect for beginners and leads naturally to text‑based languages like Python.

🐍 Will you teach other programming languages like Python?

Yes! We already use Pybricks, which lets kids write Python code for their LEGO robots. The course gradually transitions from block coding to real code when your child is ready.

🤖 What’s Pybricks?

Pybricks is a revolutionary alternative firmware for LEGO hubs that allows advanced programming in Python, seamlessly transitioning from block programming. It also makes the LEGO hubs independent from your device (SPIKE Essential, LEGO BOOST, LEGO Technic hubs).

📚 Are the instructions clear?

Yes, detailed and comparable to official LEGO manuals. Check out the demos on my website.

🧱 Which LEGO kits are required to follow this course?

You should already own a LEGO SPIKE Prime kit, chosen for its versatility, shelf‑life and diffusion. LEGO SPIKE Essential can cover the basics and some intermediate and advanced projects, still having fewer hardware resources. Other kits like LEGO BOOST or custom setups based on the Technic hub with Pybricks may be included in the future.

📦 Will I receive a LEGO kit when I enroll?

No. This is a 100% digital online course. I don’t sell or ship any physical LEGO kits. No physical materials are included or advertised anywhere. You’ll use your own LEGO set to build and learn at your pace, following my detailed video lessons and building instructions.

⚡ What if my kid already knows Scratch?

Perfect! They’ll skip the slow start and dive into engineering challenges, building real robots and learning advanced skills like sensors, logic, and Python with Pybricks.

🛡️ I’m not a techie. Will I be able to help my kid?

Absolutely. The course is designed to be self‑paced and intuitive. You can learn alongside your kid or just provide encouragement. Many parents say they end up learning too.
